Students will have another off-campus housing option in fall 2013.

Following the success of the Vue Apartments on University Drive, Fountain Residential Partners decided to develop a second apartment complex called the LoftVue Apartments at 3125 McCart Ave.

Brent Little, president of Fountain Residential Partners, said the decision was made to develop the LoftVue apartments because of the leasing velocity of the Vue apartments.

“[At the Vue] we’re over 60 percent pre-leased for next year and we just started leasing for the LoftVue project,” Little said.

Michael Von Reiche, the LoftVue community manager, said the Vue and LoftVue apartments are intended to make the transition from on-campus to off-campus living easier for students.

“We try to make our property as much geared toward TCU residential life,” Von Reiche said. “A true extension of the TCU experience.”

Mark Rogers, Multifamily Superintendent at Centerpoint Builders, said the LoftVue project broke ground in early August and will be completed on July 13, 2013.

“We have to turn it for the students to move in first week of August so the Greeks will be able to move in as scheduled from the campus for rush week,” Rogers said.

Rogers said LoftVue will be able to house 147 residents.

The proliferation of off-campus apartments stands in direct contrast to Chancellor Victor Boschini's goal of 100 percent on-campus residency, which he discussed in March while presenting the university's Vision for the Future initiative.

With this objective in mind, construction has already begun on two new residence halls in Worth Hills.

Craig Allen, director of Housing & Residence Life, said around 50 percent of the student body is currently housed on campus.
