Cornerback Jason Verrett was named a third-team All-American and defensive end Devonte Fields earned fourth-team honors from the Phil Steele Publications.

Verrett has made four All-American teams this season and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and the San Antonio Express-News Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

The Fairfield, Calif., native led the Big 12 in interceptions (six) and passes defended (20) and ranked in the top 10 nationally in both categories. Verrett also made his mark on special teams by blocking a field goal against West Virginia.

Fields earned Freshman All-American honors and National Defensive Freshman of the Year from multiple outlets. He was also the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous selection for Defensive Freshman of the Year by the conference coaches.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Fields ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in tackles for loss with 17.5 and was second in sacks with nine.

TCU’s defense ranked No. 18 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12 against five on the nation’s top-12 offenses with only one senior on the defensive depth chart.
