Men’s basketball to travel to West Virginia

The TCU men’s basketball team will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., in pursuit of its first Big 12 win against fellow Big 12-newcomer West Virginia.

The Mountaineers (8-9 overall, 1-3 Big 12) finished their non-conference schedule Saturday with a 79-52 loss to Purdue. West Virginia dropped its latest conference game 69-67 to Iowa State.

West Virginia has the worst shooting percentage in the Big 12 (.391) and the third-worst scoring defense (66.9 points per game). West Virginia's lone conference win came in overtime against a Texas squad that hasn’t won a conference game.

Guard Juwan Staten leads the Mountaineers with 10.1 points per game and 3.1 assists. Fellow guard Jabarie Hinds has been one of the top scorers for West Virginia in all four conference games, averaging 14.3 points in Big 12 games.

TCU has not allowed a single team to score over 70 points this season, including five opponents who failed to break the 50-point barrier. The Frogs own the Big 12’s top scoring defense (56.4) and the No. 12 spot in the nation. Opponents are putting up 4.3 3-pointers per game against TCU which ranks No. 13 nationally.

On offense, the Frogs are shooting .419 from the field and are putting up a conference-worst 54.8 points per game. Guard Kyan Anderson leads the Frogs in scoring (11.4) and assists (3.44) while ranking No. 17 and No. 6 in the conference respectively.

The Frogs will try to avoid an 0-6 conference start for the first time since the 2001-02 season when the squad was new to Conference-USA.

The first ever meeting between the Frogs and Mountaineers will tip-off Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
