The first Intercom meeting of the semester will be open to members only, according to an email sent by Student Body President, Joshua Simpson.

Intercom, a group comprised of various campus organization leaders, currently has no bylaws or constitution. The meetings were open to students last semester.

Simpson said last semester was the first time Intercom meetings had been open. In past years, meetings had been closed.

He wrote that a majority of Intercom members voted to make the meeting private. This was done to facilitate discussion, particularly with the newest members of Intercom, he wrote in an email.

“Sometimes people are hesitant to speak up when they're being recorded or watched,” he wrote.

The first meeting will be about clarifying the purpose and direction of Intercom, he wrote.

Simpson wrote he was not sure whether meetings would be private for the rest of the semester, but he will inform TCU 360 once Intercom members made a decision.

Members of Intercom, including Simpson, will continue to talk to TCU 360 reporters about the outcome of the meeting once it concluded, he wrote.

“We're certainly not trying to hide anything. We just want to facilitate genuinely good discussion,” he wrote.

Members of Intercom meet every other Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Miller Room of the Brown-Lupton University Union, according to the TCU Calendar of Events.
