The women’s swimming and diving team claimed their final home victory of the season against North Texas Wednesday night.

The Horned Frogs defeated the Mean Green 161-139.

The Frogs went into their final home meet after recent losses to SMU and Texas.

TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said the Horned Frog women weren’t going to let the losses interfere with their performance against North Texas.

“Going into this meet we wanted to be loose and not feel the pressure,” Sybesma said.

A sweep in the 200-yard butterfly, with Ali Bleasdell winning first, Catherine Rash taking second and Maggie Burkhardt taking third, allowed the Frogs to command an early lead.

A close finish in the 50-yard free between Parris Schoppa and Sabine Rasch kept the Frogs in the lead and the crowd on their feet.

Schoppa finished in first with a time of 24.04 seconds and Rasch took second place with a time of 24.05 seconds.

In the diving well, Katie Lybbert played an important role with her win on the 3-meter, falling shy of her second-career 300-point performance with a score of 299.03.

Although the Horned Frog women did not claim first in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly and the 400-yard IM, they maintained control of the meet by finishing in the next three spots in each of those events.

Sybesma said the victory against North Texas gives the Frogs the momentum they need to head into the conference championships. “It’s a good springboard on our way to the conference meet.”

The women’s team closed out the regular dual meet season with a 4-3 record.

The Horned Frog men and women now turn their attention to the Big 12 championships from Feb. 27 to March 2 in Austin.
