TCU may have lost out on four-star linemen such as Daeshon Hall and Andrew Billings, but a steal from the University of Texas highlighted the official recruiting class of 2013.
Seventeen of the recruits are from the state of Texas, including four-star signee Kyle Hicks from Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.
Hicks is ranked the No. 3 running back in Texas and No. 21 in the nation by FOX Sports Next and Scout.com. He rushed for 1,113 yards and totaled 1,571 yards in offense with 28 touchdowns in his senior year. He also saw time as a quarterback, throwing for 458 passing yards and no interceptions.
Another high profile signees is Cameron Echols-Luper, the son of new university receivers coach Curtis Luper. Echols-Luper, 6-feet, 190-pounds, has been ranked as the No. 7 wide receiver prospect in Alabama and the 19th-best overall player in the state.
Two junior transfers are part of the signing class as well. The university recruited offensive lineman Lloyd Tunstill from College of the Canyons in Clarita, Cali., and Mike Tuaua from Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, Cali. Tuaua comes from the same junior college as TCU All-America cornerback Jason Verrett.
The overall class is represented by four offensive linemen, three cornerbacks, three linebackers, three wide receivers, two tight ends, two safeties, two cornerbacks and two defensive ends and one defensive tackle. One athlete, Denzel Johnson from Gainesville, Texas, is also included in the class.
Johnson was selected as the District 9-3A Most Valuable Player his senior year after passing for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,064 yards and 10 scores.
