The 2013 Schieffer Symposium on the News will include Charlie Rose, Clarissa Ward, Nancy Yousef and Fred Barnes.
Rose, co-host of “CBS This Morning” and “Charlie Rose,” is a prolific interviewer in politics, literature, science and business. In the past month alone, he has interviewed such guests as Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor and CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz.
Ward, who joined CBS News in 2011, was the first broadcast journalist to get into Syria undercover during the uprising and won the Peabody Award in May 2012 for her eyewitness accounts of the Syrian Civil War.
Yousef covers the Middle East and the Islamic world for McClatchy Newspapers. She spent four years covering the Iraq war, writing pieces focusing on the daily Iraqi experience and civilian casualties as the Middle East bureau chief.
Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard, is a leading conservative voice and co-host of the Beltway Boys on Fox. He is the winner of many awards for both reporting and analysis during three decades in Washington.
Bob Schieffer, the moderator of CBS’ Face the Nation, CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent and TCU alumnus will again host this year’s symposium.
“We’re fortunate this year to have not only two of the best young foreign correspondents who have seen the Syrian civil war, Afghanistan and the Arab Spring up close but also, in Charlie and Fred, two veterans to help put it in perspective,” Schieffer said.
The symposium will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in Ed Landreth Hall.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online. Students must RSVP to [email protected] and are admitted free with a valid ID.
The panelists will visit the Schieffer School of Journalism in the afternoon before the symposium to interact with students and answer questions, Director of the Schieffer School of Journalism John Lumpkin said.
