Women’s golf will begin spring season in Puerto Rico

The TCU women’s golf team will return to the tees Sunday, competing in the 11th annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

The tournament is hosted by No. 9 Purdue University. It will be held at the River Course at Rio Mar Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Playing alongside the ocean will not be a distraction for the Frogs, head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin, who is in her 19th season at TCU, said.

“There’s pretty landscape,” Ravaioli-Larkin said. “Being able to look up after each shot and see the beautiful surroundings gives you a really good mental feeling.”

The Classic will be the first tournament for the Frogs since their 13th-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in October.

This week the team has been playing many rounds of golf, working out in the weight room and working on mentality in preparation for the tournament, Ravaioli-Larkin said.

The Horned Frogs will compete against 14 teams in Puerto Rico, seven of which are ranked in the top 25, according to Golfweek rankings.

“Golf is not a sport where we can defend,” Ravaioli-Larkin said. “It’s all about playing your game. You can’t worry about other people.”

Following the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, the Frogs will travel to Florida for the Central District Invitational Feb. 18 and 17.
