The TCU men’s golf team seeks to continue its strong start this season at the Prestige at PGA West tournament Feb. 18-20 in La Quinta, Calif.
The Horned Frogs are ranked No. 13 in the nation by the Golfweek.com/Sagarin rankings.
Head coach Bill Montigel said there is no doubt that the Prestige tournament has a good field of competing teams.
“We try and go play against the best teams in the country,” Montigel said. “That’s what we sell our program on. We’ve always had one of the strongest schedules competing against the best teams.
Eight of the 15 teams competing in the Prestige are ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
Last week, the No. 3 Washington Huskies and No. 6 UCLA Bruins shared the team title at the Amer Ari Invitational. The Frogs finished seven strokes behind the two and grabbed third place at the event.
The Frogs will meet the Huskies and Bruins again on the course in California.
Senior Daniel Jennevret was the top individual finisher at the Amer Ari Invitational last week, grabbing a tie for 15th place after shooting a 1-under 71 in his final round. Sophomore Julien Brun helped the Frog’s final-round run, shooting a 5-under 67 to tie for 17th at the conclusion of the tournament.
“We’ve got an incredible schedule this spring,” Montigel said. “We have a lot of really tough tournaments, but that’s what these kids look forward to. Competing against these really good schools to see how we stack up.”
