Even though the Mountaineers only converted four of their first 19 shots, West Virginia has a 28-26 lead into halftime.
After a sloppy opening six minutes, West Virginia pulled ahead near the halfway mark in the opening period of play with an 11-3 run. Nine of those points came from guard Taylor Palmer, who hit three consecutive triples to help expand the Mountaineer lead to 19-13.
An Ayana Dunning layup expanded the West Virginia lead to 23-13, the largest of the half, but a layup from TCU guard Natalie Ventress and a 3-point shot from freshman Kamy Cole closed the gap to 23-18 with 7:06 remaining in the half.
Those baskets sparked an 11-0 TCU run capped off by a spinning Veja Hamilton layup at the 3:48 mark to put the Frogs ahead 24-23, their first first lead of the game.
Cole leads the Frogs with 11 points while shooting 50 percent (3-for-6) from 3-point range. TCU's leading scorers Ventress and Zahna Medley combined for seven first half points.
Following up a 13 point performance in TCU's first conference win Wednesday against Oklahoma State, senior Delisa Gross has 3 points and 3 boards.
Palmer leads all scorers with 12 points with four 3-pointers. Dunning grabbed 5 rebounds to compliment her 6 points.
TCU's 2-3 zone defense has been effective defending the paint early as Latricia Lovings recorded 5 blocks in the opening half. West Virginia shot 31.4 percent to TCU's 32.1 percent.
