The women’s golf team will get three days off for spring break but will attend a private concert by country music star Darius Rucker as a perk for competing in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

TCU will travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to participate in the second annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which is featuring 15 teams, seven of which are ranked within the top 25.

Two teams the Horned Frogs have already faced in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will also be in attendance, No. 4 Alabama and No. 7 Arkansas.

“The competition will be good to analyze where we are and what we need to keep improving on,” coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said.

Katy Cardno, the lone senior on the team, said the team’s chemistry is at its best, and the team feels good heading into the four-day tournament.

“In Puerto Rico, we finished fourth against a couple of the best teams, but we are just as good and can compete,” Cardno said.

TCU has been playing at the top of its game and hopes to continue that level of play, Larkin said.

Sophomore Alexandra Bonetti recorded her second-best career finish at the Central District Invitational on Feb. 19. Sanna Nuutinen and Kortnie Maxoutopoulis also placed within the top 40.

“Our goal going into every tournament is not to look ahead but to focus on the task at hand and go in and win,” Larkin said.

Larkin said the team has been practicing on its short game and working on shots from 100 yards in and around the green.

“Coach talks a lot about the process and focusing on what is there in the moment and taking that to heart,” Cardno said.

The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will be played at the Long Cove Club along the banks of the South Carolina coast. The course is ranked in Golf Magazine as the No. 8 Best Residential Golf Course.

All teams participating in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken with Darius Rucker before the concert Thursday.
