TCU started its spring break trip through California on March 10 at the Rancho Park Golf Club, where the Frogs won its first stand-alone dual-match in more than 10 years over Pepperdine with a score of 4-1.
Sophomore Julien Brun (2&1 over Jeremy Sanders), senior Pontus Gad (2&1 over Frederick Wedel), freshman Paul Barjon (5&4 over Cody McManus) and senior Eli Cole each (4&2 over Nick Thomas) each won individual matches to bring the team to a dominant victory. Kevin DeHuff of Pepperdine gave the Waves their only point, winning on the 19th hole over TCU senior Daniel Jennevret.
The team then traveled Sunday to the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at the San Diego Country Club and tied for second place, three strokes behind champion San Diego State Aztecs.
Three Horned Frogs finished among the top 10 on the individual leaderboard and have now finished third place or better in four of the five spring tournaments.
TCU posted a 2-over-par 290 in the final round to finish at +3 overall. The Aztecs won the hometown tournament title with an even-par total of 864. The Frogs shared the second place title with Arizona State.
All-American sophomore Julien Brun earned a share of eighth place on the individual leaderboard with an even-par total of 216 and has now placed in the top 10 in five of seven tournaments this spring. He fired a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish seven strokes behind individual champion John Rahm of Arizona State, who ranks among the world’s top-60 amateur golfers.
Seniors Eli Cole and Pontus Grad also finished among the top 10, as the two shared 10th place with 1-over totals of 217. With the finish, Gad marked his fourth career top-10 finish and second of the spring season with a 1-under 71. Cole carded a 2-over 74 to earn his fourth top-10 placement of the year and fifth of his career.
Senior Daniel Jennevret finished in a tie for 13th place with a +3 overall, and freshman Paul Barjon shared 25th place with seven others at +6.
TCU will continue on the road when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., this weekend for the National Invitational Tournament at the Tucson National Golf Club.
