Taylor Troth said he has been wakeboarding since he was eight years old.
When he came to campus last fall, he said he was looking for a way to get involved, so he came up with the idea of putting a wakeboard team together.
The first-year business major said he later found out there was a wakeboard team in 2008 and wanted to bring back the inactive team.
Troth put an ad on TCU Announce but said he has gotten more responses from asking people around campus.
The team would be co-ed and needs eight members to compete in tournaments, Troth said.
“We’d compete with the Collegiate Wake Series. In our region there [are] two boat tournaments and two cable tournaments. The season runs from September to November, and after that, nationals are the following spring in April, and they are held in Las Vegas,” Troth said.
There are currently nine students signed up, but Troth said there needs to be 10 to form an interest group for the team.
First-year business and pre-med double major Parker Mack said he has been wakeboarding for about five years and decided to join the team because he has experience in the sport and wants to be more involved on campus.
First-year business major Amanda Washburn also signed up to join the team and has been wakeboarding for several years. Washburn said she has never competed in the sport but thought joining the team would be something fun to do.
“I know the biggest issue with starting a club team is getting people to come to practice,” Washburn said.
The group is looking into practicing at a nearby lake, but they are still working out the logistics, Washburn said.
She also said that other problems they could possibly have would be people bringing their wakeboards from home and making the sport a priority.
