Kappa Alpha Psi prepares for annual powder puff game

Kappa Alpha Psi will hold its annual powder puff game to give women on campus a fun way to get active and develop friendships.

“The powder puff game allows for these women to build relationships with those they may not have known,” the sophomore Spanish major wrote in an email. “It also strengthens those relationships that were already in existence.”

Sophomore journalism major Hannah Johannes said she is excited to be a part of the powder puff game this year.

"I played in the game last year and had a lot of fun," Johannes said. "I can't wait until Friday to show how hard I've practiced."

The fraternity recruited TCU women to participate through social networks and word of mouth, Kappa Alpha Psi member Stanley Ford said.

“We try to be very proactive in getting people interested by personal invitations to participate,” the sophomore biology major said.

Senior Kappa Alpha Psi member Mark Filus said encouragement from the TCU community is important.

“These women work very hard to prepare for the game, and support from others would be much appreciated,” Filus said.

The powder puff game is an event Kappa Alpha Psi holds during their Kappa Week, Milburn wrote in an email.

"Kappa Week is a week geared toward raising awareness for our fraternity," he wrote. "We want to let the campus to be able to see the quality of events we organize, the type of community service that we do and give others the opportunity to ask about Kappa Alpha Psi as a whole."

The fraternity uses Kappa Week to connect with other Greek organizations, Milburn said.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between all Greek councils,” Milburn wrote. “All events during Kappa Week are geared toward providing fun and successful events for everyone on campus.”

Kappa scheduled this year’s game for Friday at 7 p.m. in the indoor football practice facility but may be moved somewhere else, Ford said.

"If changes are made, we will announce that on our twitter page or our Facebook page," Ford said.
