Weatherford dominates Paschal, 9-0

The story of Friday night’s Paschal game was simple:  The Panthers had as many hits as Weatherford center fielder Andy Rogers had home runs.

The result:  Weatherford Kangaroos 9, Paschal Panthers 0.

Kangaroo pitcher Chris Young had a complete game shutout and struck out five.

Rogers hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and followed it up with solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Panther offense had one hit until the sixth inning, which had a Colin Merritt bunt single and Miguel Carreon double.  Paschal threatened to score only twice in seven innings.

The Kangaroos wasted no time in the top of the first.  Brock Riebe reached on a bunt single and was knocked in by an Andrew Healy double.  Dustin Williams walked, and Rogers hit his first home run of the night over the right field fence to make the score 4-0.

From then on, Young shut down the Panther offense.  He also had an RBI in the third when he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which allowed Healy to score.

In the fourth, Paschal tried to score Hunter Nurdin after a pitch hit him.  Nurdin moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Ben Noel fielder’s choice.  With two outs, Beau Campbell grounded out to third to end the scoring threat.

Paschal replaced starter Austin Perryman with Campbell in the fifth.  Rogers hit his second home run to left-center field to lead off the inning.  After giving up a single to Grayson Huffman, and Paschal’s catcher Austin Cornish throwing him out at second, Campbell got the last two batters to ground out to the infield.

The Kangaroos scored again in the sixth when Tony Rodriguez scored on a Williams single to right.

In the bottom of the inning, Paschal again threatened to score.  Merritt reached first on his bunt single.  With two outs, Carreon hit a double to right center field and Noel walked to load the bases.  Campbell grounded out to shortstop, ending hopes for a Paschal run.

Rogers led off the seventh hitting his third home run of the night where he hit his first, over the right field fence.  The Kangaroos scored again when designated hitter Chris Pohl scored on a Rodriguez single up the middle.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-7 in district play.
