Basketball's official signing day was held Wednesday as TCU head coach Trent Johnson welcomed in his first official recruiting class at the university.

The prize recruit and the recruit Johnson said “the best of the best” schools wanted is Karviar Shepherd of Prime Prep Academy in Dallas. The 6 foot 10 Shepherd turned down offers from schools like the University of Kansas, Johnson said, to come to TCU.

Johnson said Shepherd can “impact winning without having to score” and brings toughness to the Frogs.

Shooting guard Brandon Parrish, a 6 foot 5 wing player from Seguin High School, was the first commitment in the class. Johnson said that Parrish’s length and athleticism give him potential to be good defender, but that Parrish needs to get a little “meaner” on the court.

Point guard Michael Williams, a 6 foot 2 product of Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio committed to the Frogs in October. Johnson said that Williams brings a high basketball IQ to the court.

Shepherd, Parrish and Williams all signed with the Frogs during the early signing period in November.

The Frogs latest acquisition was 6 foot 6 shooting guard Hudson Price from First Academy in Orlando, Fla. Price comes from a basketball family, as his brother and father both played collegiate ball, and Johnson said he likes Price because “there isn’t anything he hasn’t seen from a basketball perspective.”

“I would say it’s the best in school history,” Brian Estridge, a long-time TCU commentator said.

TCU's incoming class is highly-touted and is what athletic director Chris Del Conte called the "best group in a long, long time."

Estridge, who is been covering TCU basketball since 1998, said the four incoming recruits make up the most exciting class he’s seen in his tenure of covering the team.

Fans have been talking about how the future looks bright, Johnson said, but the Frogs head coach has a different idea

“We got to do something now,” Johnson said. “You can expect a better basketball team next season.”

Johnson talked about what made this group special during a one-hour radio show at Buffalo Brothers. Estridge hosted the show which fans, boosters and Del Conte attended.

Johnson said he wouldn’t rule out the Frogs making a couple of more additions to the class, and that he expects all his recruits to be on campus by June 2 to report to summer school and the weight room.
