The TCU men’s tennis team celebrated its seniors and a 4-3 win over Texas Tech.

The victory Friday night squared up the Horned Frogs’ Big 12 record at 2-2 while moving their overall mark to 17-7. Tech dropped to 15-9 overall and 1-3 in league play. TCU ended a four-match edge against Tech dating back to the team’s latest victory in 2008.

“Any conference win is a good win, even though we played the worst round of doubles I've ever seen,” head coach David Roditi said.

Roditi said the match delay due to the lengthened women’s match and the excitement surrounding the pre-game senior celebration caused the players to be unfocused when the match got underway.

TCU was able to stage a comeback, earning what ended up counting as the deciding point against Texas Tech. The Frogs' 63-ranked tandem, Nick Chappell and Will Stein, trained 7-2 at court No. 1 against Jeff Bryan and Felipe Soares, while Orlando Superlano and Arnau Dachs were down 7-3 at No. 3 against Vitor Manzini and Francisco Zambon before both squads rallied. The 9-7 win on court No. 1 followed by a 9-8 comeback on court three clinched the doubles point for the Horned Frogs.

Texas Tech duo Hugo Dojas and Raphael Pfiste prevented a doubles sweep for the Frogs with a 9-7 win against Max Stevens and J.T. Sundling at No. 2 doubles.

TCU and Tech both earned three wins in singles play. Chappell, No. 94 in the nation, delivered the win for the Frogs on court No. 1 with his victory over Manzini. TCU also received wins at No. 3 court from Superlano over Pfister and on court No. 4 by Facundo Lugones over Dojas.

Friday’s match marked the final home game of the regular season and the last match for TCU seniors at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

After the win against Tech, TCU will conclude regular-season play Sunday at Baylor.
