After a 12-game homestand that was only broken up by a game at UT-Arlington, the TCU baseball team will travel to Kansas State for the first time in team history.

The Horned Frogs are coming off their third straight Big 12 Conference series win with a win Saturday and Sunday over Baylor. The 15-inning game Saturday was the longest in recorded TCU history. Following the series win, the team did not have a midweek game for the first time this season.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said after Sunday’s game he thought the lack of a midweek game would benefit the team.

“We’re playing on the road prior to exams. I mean, academically, I just think our team needs a breather,” Schlossnagle said.

Kansas State had a Big 12 series loss to Oklahoma State over the weekend, but got a 13-10 victory over former Big 12 team Nebraska.

The Wildcats have a 20-5 record at home, while TCU has a 6-8 record on the road.

Kansas State leads the country with a .331 batting average, which is higher than TCU’s team-leading batting average of .306 from freshman Boomer White.

As a team, TCU has a .257 batting average.

Five of the top 10 hitters in the Big 12 are on the Wildcats roster, with Tanner Witt and Ross Kivett ranked No. 21 in the country with 60 hits this season. Jared King leads K-State with 34 RBIs this year.

Witt not only has 60 hits, but also has five saves in 10 appearances. Backing up the pitching performances, Kansas State is second in the conference with a .974 fielding percentage.

TCU leads the conference in fielding percentage by .001.

In pitching, the Frogs’ sophomore righty Trey Teakell has not allowed a run in his 16.2 innings out of the bullpen this season. Overall, the TCU pitching staff has a 2.78 ERA, which makes them second in the Big 12 and 22nd in the country. In Big 12 play, TCU’s pitching has a 2.31 ERA, giving them the lead in the conference.

TCU’s sophomore right-hander Preston Morrison, who ranks eighth nationally with a 1.06 ERA, will get the start Friday against K-State’s right-hander Levi MaVorhis.

This will be the 10th time the two teams have met, and TCU has a 6-3 lead in the series. This will be the first time the Frogs and the Wildcats have met in a baseball game since 1987.

The last time they met more than 25 years ago, they split a doubleheader in Fort Worth. This will be the first time in baseball history that TCU will have traveled to Manhattan, Kan., to play.

The game will be the start of 11 games on the road for the Frogs. First pitch at Tointon Family Stadium is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
