Head football coach Gary Patterson has announced that that sophomore defensive end Devonte Fields has been suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season for violating university and team policy, according to a press release.
Fields was named the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year as a true freshman and was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All America Team. He led the Big 12 last year in tackles and placed third in sacks, with 18 1/2 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
TCU Athletics director Chris Del Conte could not be reached to comment while director of media relations Mark Cohen declined to comment.
It is unclear who will replace Fields for the LSU and Southeastern Louisiana games. According to the post-spring depth chart, right end Matt Anderson follows Fields in the lineup.
Anderson saw no game action in the 2012 season and was sidelined with an injury in the 2011 season. He was one of three true freshmen to see action in the 2010 season, playing in eight games and recording four tackles.
Senior Jon Koontz and sophomore James McFarland are the top two left ends on the depth chart. Koontz appeared in all 13 games last season and had 12 tackles. McFarland also appeared in all 13 games last season, making six tackles.
