This year marks the 10th year of the Jim Schlossnagle Baseball Camp at TCU designed to help improve the skills and performance of young baseball players.

Located at Lupton Stadium, campers participate in a week-long camp and get a chance to experience what it's like to play on a college field. The campers range in age from 6 to 14 years old, Meredith Montgomery, Director of Baseball Operations said. Most campers are from the Fort Worth area, with a few exceptions that come to campus specifically for the camp.

There is a half-day session from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $225 or a full-day session from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for $295.

The week-long camp emphasizes the basics and fundamentals of the game, which can then be improved on, according to Montgomery.

“The coaches encourage campers to take one thing that they have learned during camp and to build on it for the rest of the summer,” Montgomery said.

In the morning, campers are split up into groups and go to different stations. They practice hitting, fielding, base running and throwing fundamentals.

The afternoons are reserved for games where the campers can take what they have learned in the morning and apply it to real game situations.

Coaches consist of TCU baseball coaches, local high school coaches and former and current TCU baseball players.

The campers are responsible for bringing their own equipment, such as a glove, cleats/spikes, hat, helmet and anything else necessary.

The next camp session will take place from July 8 to July 12.
