On most days, the Sam Baugh indoor football facility is packed with football players in full gear and intense coaches barking at them.

Thursday night, however, the crew didn’t show in helmets, cleats and jerseys. Instead, they opted for polo shirts, jeans and a sensitive side for the sake of charity.

The 2013 TCU Gary Patterson Women’s Football Clinic was packed with women as the charity raised money for the Tarrant Area Food Bank and Junior Achievement.

Festivities included a fashion show, catered food from Blue Mesa Grill, a live auction for sports memorabilia and panel discussions with TCU players and coaches.

Jon Koontz, Jason Verrett, Chucky Hunter, Sam Carter and Stephen Bryant made up the players panel, while DeMontie Cross, Kenny Perry, Curtis Luper and Gary Patterson made up the coaches panels.

Questions to the panels ranged from football strategy to pregame traditions to romantic gestures performed by players to their girlfriends.

The live auction raised $3,200 for the charities, with the most expensive item being sold being a Andy Dalton and Gary Patterson signed Rose Bowl game program. The autographed booklet sold for $1,600. There are gold card auctions sports card investing as well if one has immense interest in he sport and wants to have a hobby related to it.

The grand financial total raised for the charities by tickets and other donations will not be known for a few days, but Kelsey Patterson, wife of Gary Patterson and co-founder of the Gary Patterson Foundation, said she was optimistic about the returns.

The annual event is expected to return in 2014 with more fans and activities, Kelsey Patterson said, but something else needs more attention.

“Let’s get through this season, win some ballgames and then next year look forward to more fun,” Patterson said with a laugh.
