Casey Pachall’s starting quarterback status is still undecided, at least officially.

At the 2013 Big 12 Conference Football Media Day, TCU head coach Gary Patterson said he doesn’t know who the starting quarterback will be, although he did hint at playing two quarterbacks- Pachall and sophomore Trevone Boykin.

“When I say that, it won’t be a 50/50 thing, I don’t think, but I do believe there’s a place for both of them,” Paterson said. “If it is Casey as the starter, you have a Trevone that really can beat you with his legs.”

Patterson said the reason Pachall was not in attendance at the conference was because he wanted to stay out of the spotlight.

“His whole thing is:  ‘I just want to be a student.  I want to be a football player.’ So I'm letting him do his thing, keep the pressure off of him,” Patterson said.

Patterson was the third coach in the Big 12 to decline to name a starting quarterback, after Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and Kansas State’s Bill Snyder.

Pachall was recently named to the All-Big 12 Preseason team before even taking a snap this season, and after only playing one game in the Big 12 last season against Kansas.

At a recent charity event, Patterson said that Pachall will get a majority of first-team reps during practice. Pachall finished spring practices as the primary first-team quarterback.
