Baylor running back and Heisman hopeful Lache Seastrunk apparently holds the TCU Horned Frogs in high respect.

At the 2013 Big 12 media days, the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year said in an interview with TCU 360 that he expects Baylor’s November 30 matchup with the Horned Frogs to be a matchup for the conference championship.

“It should be. TCU’s a really good team. I bet them to go [sic] undefeated, honestly,” Seastrunk said.

Seastrunk declined to elaborate as to why he believed TCU would go undefeated, and said he’d rather focus his time on Baylor football.

Targeting in effect

Walt Anderson, the Big 12 coordinator of officials, presented a new list of rules at the opening of the second day. The rules are fine tunings to targeting rules, which regard how and where a player can hit an opponent to bring him to the ground.

The rules designed to prevent dangerous hits on the NCAA level, with ejections or penalties enforceable on such plays, Anderson said.

Anderson repeatedly said in his conference that players need to lower their striking zone, but when asked how low, he said the difference should ultimately be "three to four inches."

Anderson recognized the need for big hits in the game, but said he did not want them at the risk of player safety.

“We need to celebrate big hits, but not celebrate targeting and potentially dangerous hits,” he said.

Iowa State linebacker Jeremiah George said he wasn’t worried about the new rules or regulations. He said he would continue to hit the way he normally does, and that he is not afraid of accidentally getting a penalty or ejection.

TCU respected by the conference

Although no TCU members spoke at day two of the conferences, it was clear that Big 12 teams think TCU is a recognized force to be dealt with in the Big 12.

Gabe Ikard, a preseason All-Big 12 offensive lineman for the Oklahoma Sooners, said TCU has one of the most dangerous defensive lines in the conference. George, the linebacker from Iowa State, said the Horned Frogs bring a balanced, uptempo offense which will be difficult to prepare for.

Many coaches expressed respect for the Frogs as well, with a few noting the way TCU defeated them during the season.

“I know what they did one Saturday night in Waco,” Baylor head coach Art Briles said. “That’s about the only comment I could have. Perception-wise on my part, [they were] a 10 out of 10 the night they played us.”
