Texas author and former TCU instructor John Graves died today at his home near Glen Rose. He was 92 years old.

Details were not given about his death, but his obituary in the Dallas Morning News said he “had been in declining health for several years.”

Graves is best known for his “Brazos Trilogy” of books about rural life in Texas. The first book in the trilogy, “Goodbye to a River,” was nominated for a National Book Award in 1960.

Graves became a creative writing instructor at TCU in 1957. He wrote a short story while he taught at the university entitled “The Last Running,” about the old Texas frontier during the 1920s. The short story was published in The Atlantic Monthly two years later, and has been published numerous times as a book since then.

His last published book, “My Dogs and Guns,” published in 2007, is a short story collection about the dogs and guns Graves owned in his lifetime.

Graves is survived by his wife, Jane, and their two daughters, Helen and Sally.
