Junior forward Devonta Abron and redshirt freshman center Aaron Durley will miss the 2013-14 season after suffering injuries during a recent four game trip in Canada, head coach Trent Johnson said Tuesday.
Abron tore his Achilles during the fourth quarter of the team’s final game against the Montreal All-Stars. Durley reinjured his left ACL during warm ups before the first game on Aug. 9.
This leaves the Frogs with 12 scholarship players. Sophomore forward Chris Washburn is appealing to the NCAA to play this season after transferring from UTEP.
Abron played in 32 games, including 15 starts, averaging 7.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Durley missed the entire 2012-13 season after injuring his ACL in a preseason practice.
Before arriving at TCU, Durley was ranked No. 41 in the state of Texas by ESPN.com, averaging 8.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks as a senior.
The Frogs finished 11-21 and 2-16 in their first Big 12 season.
