The TCU women’s soccer team will begin its 2013 season Friday with a trip to Montana to play in the Kickoff Invitational at South Campus Stadium.
The four teams competing include TCU, the University of Montana, Air Force and the University of Wyoming.
The Lady Frogs made a big splash last year during their first season in the Big 12 conference, advancing all the way to the championship game of the conference tournament where they lost to Baylor 4-1.
TCU will be fielding a young team this season with 14 freshman players and four returning seniors from last year's squad.
Fortunately for TCU, two key defensive players, redshirt junior defender Morgan Lane and redshirt junior goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold, return this season.
Arnold, a former Arizona State transfer, tied the TCU single-season shutout record last year with eight shutouts. The psychology major was also named the defensive MVP of last year’s Big 12 tournament.
Lane was a key part of the team’s defense during her redshirt sophomore campaign in 2011. She started in all of TCU’s 21 games last season and played every minute in all but four of those contests. Three other team members played in all 21 games, and Monica Alvarado started in all 21.
Head Coach Eric Bell, the third coach in TCU women’s soccer history, enters his second season as head coach.
TCU plays Wyoming at 4 p.m. Friday.
