The TCU women's soccer team earned its first win of the season Sunday, topping Air Force 2-1.
The teams were evenly matched with each taking 10 shots. Freshman goalkeeper Shannon Coffer made her first career start for the Lady Frogs and saved six of Air Force’s seven shots at the goal.
"I was impressed with her play today,” TCU head coach Eric Bell said. “She came in and did a good job. She organized the back line and because of that [she] didn't have to work very hard because the back line limited the chances.”
The match was scoreless through most of the first half until freshman Michelle Prokof scored the first goal at the 42nd minute to take the lead at 1-0. The goal was Prokof’s second of the season.
After the half, Air Force took the lead in the 60th minute to make the score 1-1. The Horned Frog offense responded with freshman Meghan Murphy scoring her first career goal to take back the one-point lead at 2-1 with 26 minutes left in the game.
“We talked about how when you give up a goal or score a goal the next five minutes are extremely important,” Bell said. “I thought we responded well to go up to 2-1.”
The rebound from Friday’s loss to Wyoming gives the soccer team a 1-1 record overall. The Lady Frogs are set to play LSU on the road Friday night at 7 p.m.
