A construction worker died early Sunday after a chimney fell on him at a TCU construction site on Saturday, officials said Monday.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the worker with Zamora Construction as Sebastian Sanchez, 30, of Fort Worth. He was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m. Sunday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.
The Medical Examiner's Office ruled that Sanchez died from injuries to the chest and abdomen after being struck by the falling chimney. The death was ruled an accident.
A dispatcher at the TCU Police Department said TCU Police initially handled the investigation because the incident occurred on campus. It is not known at this time whether the investigation has been handed to Fort Worth police.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Lisa Albert, director of communications at TCU, said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Zamora Construction and the family members of the Zamora employee fatally injured on Saturday. Zamora Construction was hired to perform the demolition of several buildings on campus to prepare for a new parking lot."
Sanchez was part of a crew that was demolishing a house at 3014 Lubbock Avenue on TCU’s campus.
