Head coach Matt Cook said he doesn’t remember the last time Paschal went 3-0, but he said this is only the beginning for the team this season.  

On Friday, Paschal jumped out to a big lead over Dallas Sunset, and even though the Panthers didn’t score after halftime, they didn’t need to. They completed the shutout of the Bison 52-0 at Farrington Field.

The Panthers (3-0) totaled more than 300 yards and scored on their first seven possessions, giving them the large lead against the Bison (0-3).

Backup quarterback Gibson Duwe led the team in passing with two TD tosses and accounted for more than 100 yards.

Running back Justin Woodard scored the first touchdown of the night midway through the first quarter, setting the tone for Paschal’s offense.  

Panther starting quarterback Dylan Thomas ignited the passing game, completing 7-of-8 passes for 77 yards and recording his fifth TD pass of the year.

Thomas followed with a 13-yard touchdown run on the Panthers’ next possession. On the ensuing drive, Shang Bou scored from 12 yards out.

“Teamwork is our number one thing,” Thomas said. “We have to continue stepping up and staying in the game.”

Cook said overall good defense led them to a victory in their last non-district game.

“We didn’t give up a touchdown,” he said. “In the first three series of the game we had three three-and-outs.”

As for Woodard, he said the team’s rise so far this season has been a long time coming.

 “We’ve been working hard all summer,” he said. “We really had a fire going for us. It was a big game for me because I wasn’t able to play [against Sunset] last year.”

Paschal begins district play next Friday against Arlington Sam Houston (2-2) at Wilemon Field in Arlington. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
