Several businesses surrounding the university show off their Horned Frog spirit by offering TCU-themed items on their menus.
For individuals with a sweet tooth, Cold Stone Creamery on South University Drive offers its own flavor of ice cream special to TCU.
The TCU Frog Cream ice cream gets its color from purple sweet cream, said Cold Stone Creamery employee Lauren Clemence.
The sweet cream ice cream gives it a taste and smell similar to butter cream cake frosting.
“I wasn’t sure how it would go,” Clemence said. “But everybody loves it.”
If that wasn’t enough TCU pride, there are also gummy frog toppings to add just a little more school spirit.
The neighboring Dutch’s Hamburgers offers a TCU Greek salad with mixed greens, vegetables, feta cheese and red wine vinaigrette.
Although it is not a restaurant, Kroger grocery store on University Drive also offers a variety of purple and TCU-themed sweet treats.
The in-store bakery creates purple cakes, cupcakes and cookie cakes year-round. They even sell officially-licensed TCU peanuts for game day snacks.
For the 21-and-older crowd, Los Vaqueros Mexican restaurant at 3105 Cockrell Ave. sells a purple “Frogarita” made with DeKuyper Razzmatazz Liqueur, which gives it its purple color. The restaurant also garnishes all its plates with a purple tortilla chip.
Next door, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has its own variation of the “Frogarita.” Because the restaurant can’t sell liquor, Fuzzy’s margaritas are made with a purple agave wine that gives them a little bit of a kick, said Fuzzy’s manager Alyssia Jiminez.
Jiminez said the location on Berry Street is the only location in Fort Worth that has them, but some other franchise stores offer similar beverages depending on the university they are nearest to.
“People love them here,” she said. “They’re really popular with the TCU crowd. They get so excited.”
