It all came down to Remington Cook, who quickly tipped the ball over the net, earning Paschal the match point and sweep against Bowie Friday night.

The 27-25 win in the third set finished Paschal’s first sweep of the season.

“This is what we expected and this is what we expect to do every game, but the fact we executed tonight is the most satisfying part,” assistant coach Tim Reimann said.

After the Panthers took the first two sets of the match, Bowie was neck-and-neck with Paschal in the last set. Both teams were never more than two points apart on the board.

Bowie dealt a kill to put the Volunteers up, 25-24, but they followed with a net foul and gave up a point to tie the game at 25.

Paschal took the lead, 26-25, after Bowie shanked the ball.

Cook sealed the win for the Panthers.

Team captain Carly Morris said the ability to place the ball where Bowie couldn’t reach it was the strength for Paschal.

The senior middle blocker contributed to the offensive success, leading the team with 14 kills.

“At times, communication was a challenge but I think the strength was that we were resilient enough to not let that affect us and improved as the game went on,” Reimann said.

Morris said the front row was able to step up and place the ball over the net when the back row struggled.

“It shows that everyone can do their part when needed and help each other out when one part isn’t able to fight, the other part of the team carries them,” she said.

Reimann said the team has found itself up 2-0 and dropped the third set several times this season. He said the best chance to win the match was to take game three.

“When we pull together, it works,” Morris said.

The Panthers improved to 11-23 on the season.

Paschal will begin a series of away games against North Crowley on Tuesday. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m.
