While the TCU Football team will be rising early in Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game, other students will be visiting friends and family in different states around the country.
Some students are headed home, and others are using the extended weekend as an opportunity to check out other colleges around the country.
Kyle Hanaway, a junior entrepreneurial management major, is making the 1,721 mile journey to Storrs, Conn. to visit friends at the University of Connecticut. Hanaway, who is from New Hampshire, said he is excited about seeing another school.
“It will be good to check out what another school is like. A lot of schools are in session when we have off this break,” Hanaway said.
First-year psychology major, Reed Richards, said he is also looking forward to visiting friends in a different state.
“I’m from Plano, Texas, but I am heading out to visit some fraternity buddies in Redlands, California,” Richards said. “It will be cool to see a different part of the country.”
Sophomore environmental science major Patrick Ryan said his plans for the long weekend includes a visit to the mountains. Ryan, a San Antonio, Texas native, is headed to a cooler climate at his friends lodge in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
“I’m looking forward to cooler weather and being outdoors,” he said. “There isn’t much snow up there yet, but it will be a nice change of scenery.”
Paige Hall, a sophomore strategic communication major, said she is planning on visiting her friend at Duke University but feels that the break should fall on a different weekend.
“I wish the fall break and family weekend were split up more so that the timing would be better to see our families. It seems so close together, especially with Thanksgiving coming up in November,” Hall said.
No matter where student’s travels might take them, gas prices around the country are different. Some are more expensive and others are cheaper.
