TCU’s All-American cornerback Jason Verrett is one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the best defensive back in the nation, the Jim Thorpe Award website announced Tuesday.
The senior, despite not seeing many balls thrown his way during the season, leads the Big 12 in passes defensed and is third in the country with 1.8 passes defended per game. He has also notched two interceptions and 12 pass breakups for the season.
Verrett is also sixth on the team with 33 tackles and has a sack on the season.
The last TCU player up for this honor was former TCU safety Tejay Johnson, who was a finalist for the 2010 Jim Thorpe Award.
