The TCU men’s club lacrosse team dominated in a winter warm up against Big 12 rival Texas Tech Sunday, 16-9. TCU is ranked 4 in the preseason polls.

TCU was 16 for 34 in shooting. TCU pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 6-3 advantage.

Although the Red Raiders outnumbered the Horned Frogs, the Frogs worked with what they had and came out on top, according to head coach Cosey Carlisle.

“It felt good to win,” Carlisle said. “It was our first time this season to play a conference opponent and they showed up with a lot of guys, so we were a little nervous at first.

“We’re not use to them having that many guys. I’m really proud of our guys, and we showed up even with low numbers and played really strong.”

Due to low numbers at practices, the Frogs will need to clean up defensively and work through transitioning to prepare for the upcoming season.

“We made a few mistakes, but it’s definitely going to happen in the fall,” Carlisle said. “We need to work on transitioning the ball from our offense to defense. We had some trouble with that, but it probably had to do with our low numbers being tired.”

Although both teams had young talent on the field, the Horned Frogs had an advantage with their veterans.

“Our lacrosse IQ is there,” Carlisle said. “We play the game smartly and have a good feel for the game. We’ve had guys that have played for two years here, and you can really see that veteran leadership on the field.”

Junior midfielder Alec Whitman received the game ball for having five goals and four assists.

“It was a great team effort,” Whitman said. “Some of us have never played together before today, so it was interesting, but we molded together.”
