It wasn’t pretty, but TCU got the job done Wednesday night against Stephen F. Austin, winning 60-52 to stay unbeaten at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum this season.

The Frogs had another slow start, trailing early 12-2. The Ladyjacks had several offensive rebounds early to put the pressure on the Frogs to mount a comeback before halftime.

TCU (5-3) took advantage of good defense and poor shooting by SFA and only trailed by four before Zahna Medley beat the halftime buzzer with a desperation heave to cut the lead to one.

In the second half, the Frogs took their first lead of the game but quickly allowed seven unanswered points. Then the Frogs went on their own run led by two threes in a row for Natalie Ventress, who had a career high 17 points to lead all scorers.

Senior center Latricia Lovings added a double-double, posting a career-high 10 blocks and 11 points.

Head coach Jeff Mittie said after the game that the only positive from the game was the win in the score column.

“I honestly expected us to play better tonight,” he said. “They outshoved us; they outpushed us.”

Tierany Henderson led the way for the Ladyjacks with 17 points and 13 rebounds. SFA was able to keep it close for most of the game thanks to 25 offensive rebounds, but couldn’t come back after the Frogs went on a 17-4 run midway through the second half.
This was the first game of a six game home stand that stretches to Jan. 2. Mittie said he plans to utilize the time to work on the team’s play.

“There’s a window to get some work done,” he said. “There’s a huge list of things we have to get better at.”

The next game for the team will be Dec. 15 against Texas-Pan American. The game begins at 4 p.m. immediately following the men’s basketball match against that same school.
