Despite a raucous student section and record-breaking crowd in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, the TCU men’s basketball team trails the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks 53-32.
Junior forward Amric Fields, who is currently suffering from the flu, has a team-high 11 points at halftime.
The Jayhawks started the game off with a 4-0 run before Fields repaid the favor with four straight points of his own.
From then on, Kansas outscored TCU 49-28. Kansas made over 60 percent of their shots in the first half.
TCU held Kansas to a season-low 29 percent from the field the last time these two teams met here.
The Frogs shot just over 30 percent from the field and were outrebounded 20-14 in the first half.
Freshman center Karviar Shepherd has four points and three rebounds.
TCU went 14 of 16 from the free throw line in the first half. They’re currently making 71 percent of their free throws this season, which is the third-best percentage in the Big 12.
Kansas guard Andrew Wiggins has a game-high 19 points and Jayhawks center Joel Embiid has added 11 points and six rebounds of his own.
Tempers flared early on as both teams were issued technical fouls after a scramble for a loose ball got a little too physical for the referees’ liking.
The attendance for tonight’s game was announced at 7,494, which is the highest in school history for TCU.
