Terry, Moore break school records in track and field

Senior Tricia Terry and freshman Jordan Moore broke two school records in the women’s mile and men’s 60-meter hurdle, respectively, at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas.

On Friday, Terry broke the previous school record that was set by Rebecca Allison in the mile run in 1986. The previous school record was 4:47.49. Terry beat the record by 4.97 seconds, running 4:42.52 to finish third.

Terry’s teammate Moore also broke a school record in men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.70 seconds. Moore placed second in the event behind Chris Caldwell from Iowa Central Community College, who completed the event in 7.68 seconds.

This is Moore’s third time to break a school record in two weeks. Moore broke the 14-year-old school record twice at the New Mexico Invitational Feb. 1, first when running in the preliminaries and again when placing second with a time of 7.72 seconds.

On Saturday, Terry ran the women’s 3,000-meter event and placed first with a time of 9:37.70. Hillary Stafford from University of Alabama finished second with a time of 9:42.10, placing her behind Terry by 4.4 seconds.

Junior Megan Smith placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 52 feet and 4 inches.

Two TCU runners had seasonal bests in the men’s 200-meter dash. Freshman Cameron Echols-Luper set a seasonal best when he came in ninth place with a time of 21.21 seconds. Sophomore Sam Watts placed 11th with a time of 21.24, also setting a seasonal best.

The team’s next event will be the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa on Feb. 28 and March 1.
