The TCU women’s tennis team fell 4-3 to Memphis Sunday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The No. 40 Horned Frogs (3-5, 0-0 Big 12) last faced the No. 31 Tigers (5-2, 0-0 AAC) in 1996, when TCU beat them 7-0 at home.
Juniors Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova returned to play since their injuriesduring their last set of matches on the road.
TCU won the first set of doubles 8-5 in court two with Tan and first-year Seda Arantekin.
In court one, sophomore Mimi Fotopoulos and freshman Sofiko Kadzhayafought hard but lost to the No. 38-ranked doubles pairing Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner with a score of 8-5.
In court three, Parajova and senior Monika Sirilova lost to Marta Morga and Skylar Kuykendall, also with a score of 8-5.
During singles action, Memphis won the first match, giving them a 2-0 lead.
TCU’s first singles win was in court one, with No. 52 Tan winning 6-2, 6-1 over No. 99 Stefanie Mikesz. Parajova secured her win in court two with a 7-6(7), 6-1 victory over Kuykendall. Arantekin pulled a win on court five with the third-set tiebreaker 7-5, 0-6, 7-6(5) against Anki Wind.
The Horned Frogs led 3-2 and fought through the last two sets. In the end, Memphis took wins in courts six and three, ultimately winning the match 4-3.
TCU will host No. 75 SMU on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Tut Bartzen Varsity Tennis Courts.
