Former TCU cornerback Jason Verrett impressed several scouts during his NFL Combine workout on Tuesday afternoon.

Verrett ran the 40-yard-dash in 4.38 seconds, which is second highest among cornerbacks this year. He also got 39 inches on the vertical jump and 128 inches on the broad jump, according to NFL.com.

The former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year maintained composure when questioned about his small size. Verrett measured in at 5-foot-9 and weighed 189 pounds.

“Being the size that I am, I’m gonna have to be a lot more physical than the bigger guys and I feel like I showed that,” Verrett told the media in a press conference.

The Fairfield, California, native is currently scheduled to get surgery for a torn labrum on March 21, which is after TCU’s Pro Day. He sat out of the bench press workout on Tuesday due to his injury, which he sustained last year.

Verrett didn’t lack confidence when asked where he ranks among the current prospects.

“I believe that I’m the best corner in this draft so I can draw the line right there,” Verrett told the media. “I’m confident in my abilities on the field.”

He finished his career with nine interceptions, 160 tackles and 34 pass breakups.

The Frogs went 4-8 last season despite having one of the Big 12’s best defenses.

“I’m not pleased with the way our season went,” Verrett said. “But I’m pleased with the accomplishments that I was able to accomplish.”

TCU head coach Gary Patterson praised Verrett’s work ethic later in the day.

Verrett, who transferred from Santa Rosa Junior College to TCU before the start of the 2011 season, later compared himself to a former Philadelphia Eagles great.

“I like to model my game after Asante Samuel,” Verrett said. “I feel like his technique, his fluidness and quick feet kinda match my game.”
