22 members of the TCU swimming and diving team were selected to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming and Diving Team on Tuesday, according to a press release.
TCU’s 16 women honorees were the most in the conference this year. 90 athletes in total were honored from across the Big 12.
To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or over the two previous semesters. They must also have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests, according to the release.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence while senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The first-team for this year consists of 18 TCU athletes while the second-team honored an additional four. First-team honorees have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better, while second-team honorees hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Among those recognized for the Frogs were sophomore swimmer Sara Brzozowski and senior swimmer Sebastian Arispe.
Brzozowski was one of only three athletes nominated with a 4.00 GPA. She was also TCU’s Freshman of the Year and made the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team last season, according to GoFrogs.com.
Arispe, a native of Peru, was awarded a Second-Team All-Big 12 selection for the 1,650 free in 2013. According to GoFrogs.com, he holds school records in the 500 free and 800 free relay as well.
TCU is expected to compete this weekend in Austin, Texas, at the Big 12 Championships.
