After an 81-59 loss to West Virginia in Morgantown Saturday afternoon, the TCU men’s basketball team has just two chances left to win a regular season conference game.
In the loss, TCU dropped its 16th game in a row, dropping their overall record to 9-19 and conference record to 0-16. With the win, West Virginia even its conference record at 8-8, and improved their season record to 16-13.
Senior guard Jarvis Ray helped lead the Horned Frog attack with 13 points, to go along with 13 boards, 2 assists and a block.
TCU actually trailed West Virginia by just three at halftime, at 39-36. The Frogs shot 50 percent from the field during the first half, keeping them in a game that would be blown open in the second half.
The Frogs were trailing by only six with about 12 minutes left in the second half when the Mountaineers went on a scoring surge that turned a single-digit deficient to double digits in a matter of minutes.
With a little over six minutes left in the game, sophomore guard Christian Gore scored five straight points to stop the Mountaineer run, but West Virginia had already built a 25-point lead by way of a 25-4 scoring streak.
Junior guard Kyan Anderson, who has been consistently leading TCU’s offense, cooled off Saturday with just 10 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.
TCU’s next game is Wednesday, March 5 against the Texas Longhorns in Austin. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
After that, TCU will play its final regular season and home game against the Oklahoma Sooners on March 8, at 3:00 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
