Two members of the TCU women’s basketball team, sophomore guard Zahna Medley and senior center Latricia Lovings, received Big 12 honors Thursday morning, according to a press release.
Medley was named to the All-Big 12 First Team after averaging 16.4 points per game, which ranked fifth-best in the Big 12 this season. She is the first TCU women’s basketball player to ever garner a first or second team All-Big 12 selection.
A native of Springfield, IL, Medley also placed third in three-pointers per game (2.3), fourth in minutes played (33.7 mpg), sixth in free-throw percentage (.805), eighth in assists (3.7 apg) and 13th in steals (1.4 spg). She posted double-figure scoring performances in 25 games this season.
The 5-foot-6 guard needs only nine points in the opening game of the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship to become the sixth individual in TCU history with 500 points in a single season.
As for Lovings, the 6-foot-3 center earned a place on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team after racking up 116 blocks this season, which is fourth-most in school history.
Lovings also holds the record for most consecutive games with a blocked shot in 69, which is seven more than former TCU great Sandora Irvin gained during her career. She got her hands on five or more balls 12 times this season, averaging 3.9 blocks per game.
The conference office announced the results Wednesday following a vote by the league’s 10 head coaches, according to the release.
The No. 7 seeded Frogs (17-13, 8-10 Big 12) take on 10th-seeded Texas Tech (13-17, 5-10 Big 12) at the Big 12 Championship Friday night in Oklahoma City, OK. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
