In the third game of a back-and-forth series, the No. 24-ranked TCU baseball team dropped their three-game series against No. 25 Texas Tech, losing 12-2 Sunday afternoon.

Freshman pitcher Tyler Alexander allowed seven hits and six runs in 5.1 innings pitched in the loss.

The Frogs controlled their conference opener from start to finish on Friday night, shutting out the Red Raiders 9-0. Junior pitcher Brandon Finnegan led the charge by striking out ten batters and allowing only three hits in seven innings.

Saturday’s contest was also lopsided but in favor of Tech. The Red Raiders mustered 15 hits and nine RBIs in a 10-2 win over the Frogs, which tied the series at 1-1.

The finale on Sunday followed the series trend of blowouts, but not how TCU had hoped.

The Frogs took an early lead in the bottom of the first after a single from sophomore left fielder Boomer White allowed senior right fielder Dylan Fitzgerald to score. White batted .400 and scored a run over the weekend weekend.

The Houston native leads the team in batting average and hits so far this season.

The game would remain 1-0 TCU until the top of the fifth. Texas Tech’s Devon Conley hit a single, which allowed base runner Stephen Smith to score. Second baseman Bryant Burleson then drilled a big double to right centerfield, scoring three for the Red Raiders.

Burleson finished with two hits (both doubles), five RBIs and a run in the victory.

Tech made it a 5-1 game in the following inning after Smith scored off a wild pitch from Alexander. The left-hander from Southlake Carroll has a 3-2 record on the season.

Junior Jordan Kipper pitched in relief for Alexander but quickly misfired one of his own, allowing the Red Raiders to make it 6-1. Kipper was pulled in favor of sophomore Riley Ferrell shortly after.

Things would only get worse from there for the Frogs.

Burleson drove his second double of the afternoon into left centerfield, scoring both runners. He’d later score off Tech’s ninth hit of the game to make it 9-1 TTU.

TCU had a few opportunities in the next few innings to cut the deficit but couldn’t get the crucial hits when it counted most.

The Red Raiders padded their win in the top of the ninth with three runs, ultimately winning 12-2. Tech finished the afternoon with 12 hits and 10 RBIs to the Frogs’ eight hits and two runs.

With the loss, TCU drops to 13-10 and 1-2 in Big 12 play. They’ll continue their five-game home stand Tuesday night against Texas Pan-American.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
