TCU didn’t take home the title at the Big 12 Equestrian Championships on Saturday, but they did earn five conference honors, including Big 12 Coach of the Year for the Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield. 

“I am so proud to be a Horned Frog today,” Schoolfield said in a press release. “Our riders fought hard, but had a few uncharacteristic mistakes that cost us the meet.”

Other accolades went to freshman Rylee Morgan, sophomore Chantz Stewart and senior Caitlin Ader. 

Ader became the first TCU rider to hold honors in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences. 

Morgan earned Big 12 Championship award for most outstanding performer in Horsemanship, and Stewart earned an honor in Reigning. 

TCU lost both of its contests Friday and Saturday to No. 6 Baylor and No. 5 Kansas State, respectively. While the Frogs outscored their opponents in points, they ultimately lost in event wins. 

TCU fell to Baylor 11-9 on the first day of the meet, despite outscoring the Bears 2,865-2,751.5. The Frogs fought Kansas State for the third-place standing but lost 13-6. They still outscored the Wildcats 2,865-2,201.

Oklahoma State ultimately took the championship title after defeating Baylor. 

The Frogs hold a 6-8 record and 3-3 in conference play. The 2013-2014 season will come to a close on April 17, when the Frogs travel to Waco for the 2014 NCEA National Championships.
