TCU sophomore Tyler Matthews tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he’s leaving TCU.
The news came just after speculation over where Texas A&M quarterback Matt Joeckel will transfer to after his exit from A&M was announced Wednesday.
Thankful for the opportunity I was given here at TCU, excited to see where this next chapter takes me!

Matthews, a former four-star prospect by Rivals.com, appeared in only four games for TCU last season, despite the team floundering on offense. He was 0-for-3 on pass attempts as a Frog.
While Matthews was highly touted out of high school, he could never beat out junior Trevone Boykin for the starting spot in his two years at TCU.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson reaffirmed this during the spring.
“Still Trevone’s the number one guy,” Patterson said. Then, Tyler [Matthews] No. 2 and then Zach [Allen].”
It has since been reported by multiple members of the media that Joeckel is expected to visit TCU tomorrow and eventually sign with the Frogs.

Call it a 99% chance that Matt Joeckel is a Frog, but now the question is Joeckel or a freshman QB? #TCU

Joeckel, who was the backup to former Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns last season. He would be eligible to play in 2014 as a senior.
The Arlington, Texas native is the twin brother of Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Luke Joeckel. He threw for almost 7000 yards and 72 touchdowns in high school before going to Texas A&M.
A&M announced Joeckel’s departure from the school Wednesday.
If Joeckel did come to TCU, he’d be the Frogs’ fifth scholarship quarterback on the roster along with Boykin, redshirt freshman Zach Allen and incoming freshmen Foster Sawyer and Grayson Muehlstein.
TCU football slumped to a 4-8 record last season. They were 89th in the league in points for and 72nd in passing yards, according to ESPN.
Below are tweets from Wednesday afternoon from several media members regarding the possible transfer.
TCU, SMU, UNT could all use a QB like A&M transfer/Arlington HS grad Matt Joeckel….shoot, OU needs a veteran backup this year.

Would not be surprised at all to see TCU pursue Matt Joeckel. Makes a lot of sense for both sides.
