Purple Haze hoping to shuttle students to basketball games next year

The Purple Haze student section is working with TCU Athletics to provide shuttles to “home away from home” basketball games next year while the DMC is under renovation.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their home games next year at the Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Center, a Fort Worth ISD facility.

Purple Haze is working to make sure TCU fans fill the 4,700 seats throughout the 2014-15 season with giveaways and prize drawings.

“Our biggest challenge is going to be getting students to the gym,” said Andrew Felts, a junior finance and sports broadcasting dual major and an officer on the Student Basketball Committee.

“We are anticipating running shuttles and raffling away prizes to really encourage students to attend the games.”

The installment of Purple Haze attributed largely to the uptick in attendance at basketball games last season, and the players noted its presence.

“Several players told me throughout the season that it is really motivational for them to look up and see a full section of TCU students going crazy,” Felts said. “Our goal is to create an atmosphere that intimidates the opponents and fires up our players and the rest of the crowd, regardless of the score, opponent, or level of play.”
