A former high school All-American, Matthews announced his intent to transfer shortly before initial rumors of Matt Joeckel transferring to TCU came up.
Matthews played in only four games for the Frogs last season, but missed each of his three pass attempts and never got the opportunity to start.
TCU will have six quarterbacks on the roster with Matthews leaving and Joeckel transferring in. Joeckel’s transfer has yet to be officially announced by the school.
The Golden Eagles went 1-11 last season and ranked 120th in points for, according to ESPN.
