Redshirt sophomore defensive end DeVonte’ Fields was named Defensive Player of the Year on the 2014 Preseason Media All-Big 12 Football Team Wednesday morning.
Media representatives who cover the conference voted on the team and the individual award winners. Three members of the TCU football team, all defensive, were selected to the team in total.
Fields played in only three games last season after sustaining a foot injury against Texas Tech early in the year. The Arlington, Texas, native had 10 sacks and won 2012 AP Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year his freshman year.
In addition to Fields, fellow defensive lineman Chucky Hunter and senior safety Sam Carter were selected. Only Baylor, Oklahoma and Kansas State had more players voted to the team.

The Frogs begin their 2014 campaign Aug. 30 at home against Samford. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
