The TCU football team removed senior wide receiver Brandon Carter from the team roster Saturday morning.

“Both sides tried,” TCU head coach Gary Patterson said on July 21. “Brandon did and we did. He has a chance out there someday. He can still get his degree and do what he needs to do and still come out a winner.”

Patterson mentioned academic concerns as the reason behind his player not returning, but Carter remained on the roster until Saturday.

“He has a redshirt year and I think the best thing for him is to [not take it and] get a new start,” Patterson said. “It’s setting a precedent – you have to go to school.”

The Columbus, Texas, native did not participate in spring drills due to academic concerns, and his future with the team became further in doubt following an arrest for possession of marijuana in late April.

The charge was later dropped at the prosecutor’s discretion.

Carter finished his TCU career with 90 catches for 1312 yards and nine touchdowns. The Frogs now have 23 receivers on the team. 

Defensive end DeVonte’ Fields, who surrendered to Fort Worth police July 24 on an assault charge, is still listed on the roster as of 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
