TCU football enjoyed a great start to its 2014 season, routing the Samford Bulldogs in a 48-14 blowout victory.

Junior Trevone Boykin got the nod at quarterback for the Frogs, throwing two touchdowns and rushing for another.

The Horned Frogs racked up 541 yards in the win, while holding Samford to only 143 yards of total offense.

Junior wide receiver Kolby Listenbee caught two touchdown passes, including one from senior quarterback Matt Joeckel, and David Porter added another touchdown reception.

Boykin, junior B.J. Catalon, and redshirt freshman Trevorris Johnson all scored rushing touchdowns for the Frogs.

TCU’s defense forced two turnovers and held Samford to just more than 2 yards per play.

Defensive end Mike Tuaua was a menace in the pass rush, forcing two fumbles, and senior linebacker Paul Dawson caught an interception on the second play of the second quarter.

Kicker Jaden Oberkrom broke TCU’s record for most consecutive extra points and added two field goals in the victory.

TCU’s quarterback controversy ended up being a non-factor, as Boykin started and played well into the fourth quarter.

Joeckel entered the game with 7:37 remaining, and threw a touchdown to Listenbee on his second throw of the game.

However, the senior transfer from Texas A&M threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Samford’s Jamerson Blount.

The Horned Frogs’ next game will be September 13 against Minnesota.
